Mishap At The Farmers Market

The Farmers' Market Mishap #2

This was a story of how the second unmarried twin found a husband, how her work and life was lived mostly helping and putting others first. Having twin grand-babies born this year I enjoyed this story focused on twins.

The Ringmaster's Wife by [Cambron, Kristy]

What a wonderful story! I was taken right into the Circus world and learned about the Ringlings’ glittering world and how two young women from different parts of the world become a special participants of this Ringling Brothers’ circus. Rich in history and just a wonderful story! Loved it!

About the book:

An ounce of courage. A split-second leap of faith. Together, they propel two young women to chase a new life—one that’s re-imagined from what they might have become.

In turn-of-the-century America, a young girl dreams of a world that stretches beyond the confines of a quiet life on the family farm. With little more than her wit and a cigar box of treasures to call her own, Mable steps away from all she knows, seeking the limitless marvels of the Chicago World’s Fair. There, a chance encounter triggers her destiny—a life with a famed showman by the name of John Ringling.

A quarter of a century later, Lady Rosamund Easling of Yorkshire, England, boards a ship to America as a last adventure before her life is planned out for her. There, the twenties are roaring, and the rich and famous gather at opulent, Gatsby-esque parties in the grandest ballrooms the country has to offer. The Jazz Age has arrived, and with it, the golden era of the American circus, whose queen is none other than the enigmatic Mable Ringling.

When Rosamund’s path crosses with Mable’s and the Ringlings’ glittering world, she makes the life-altering decision to leave behind a comfortable future of estates and propriety, instead choosing the nomadic life of a trick rider in the Ringling Brothers’ circus.

A novel that is at once captivating, deeply poignant, and swirling with exquisite historical details of a bygone world, The Ringmaster’s Wife will escort readers into the center ring, with its bright lights, exotic animals, and a dazzling performance that can only be described as he Ringlings’ glittering world

Gladden the Heart by Olivia Newport

My thoughts:

When Noah begins preaching while under trances, the Amish community is at odds on how to handle it. The Bishop thinks it’s against the Amish law, the English think it is something they have seen before and the close family members know it is not Noah pretending to preach to get attention.  This story had a very strong spiritual theme and I enjoyed learning more about the beliefs of the Amish and the Methodist’s at that time. There is a little romance but it helped show how difference of opinions can still overcome the difficult situations that come up in life.  I enjoyed this slower paced family, faith and coming together of a community story.

“I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.”

About the book:

“When you have experienced the Holy Ghost as I have, you would see that it is difficult to turn back.”

When the lively fervor of nineteenth century revivalism endangers the staid customs of the Amish community in the lush but rugged Kishacoquillas Valley of central Pennsylvania in 1847, the Amish church must deal with a divisive question: What is a genuine spiritual experience?

The question turns personal when Susanna’s beloved cousin Noah begins preaching while under trances and even though he is not a minister he gives long sermons that attract increasing attention. Curious, she helps to keep Noah safe during his trances. At the same time Adam, Susanna’s intended, feels pressure from the bishop to speak out against the ways of revivalism.

Susanna and Adam are pushed to opposite sides of a controversy that threatens their traditional Amish faith.. Now they must grapple with whether love is possible…even if they come to different conclusions.

When Noah goes missing at a time of day when he often preaches while asleep, circumstances thrust community members with divergent opinions into a crisis that demands they recognize the humanity they share regardless of beliefs. But can strong-held opinions be softened by the truths that shape their lives?
